This year’s , Austrian company Volta Future GmbH will unveil an e-outboard offering 222kW (300hp) continuous power and 790Nm. The next-gen e-outboard is called iWOP, which stands for invisible waterline outboard power-drive.

The housing of the iWOP is much more compact than classic outboard housings and contains two specially developed, high-performance electric motors together with a directly cooled double inverter. Unlike all other outboards on the market, the iWOP can be mounted not only on boats with transom (outboard) but also on boats with (normally) inboards instead of the stern drive.

The Austrian specialist says it is breaking new ground by linking the electric motors using a carbon belt drive. It claims this pioneering spirit combined with attention to every tiny detail has led to a high-performance propulsion system offering unprecedented compactness and efficiency. Despite the high performance, the outboard remains completely oil-free and maintenance-free throughout its entire lifespan.

Due to the dual design of the electric motors, the stator cooling surface has been significantly increased compared with conventional 250kW motors. Coupled with frameless integration and the unique dynamic pressure technology, cooling the electric motors and power electronics has never been easier. No impeller or additional cooling pump is needed.

To offer the highest-possible range of applications and performance, the iWOP will be available in two versions: the iWOP-dual (two electric motors) and the iWOP-single (one electric motor). So the company provides a power range of 66-222kW with identical, compact size.
