Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC) is the biggest power producer and electricity supply company in Greece with approximately 7.4 million customers.

Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC) is the biggest power producer and electricity supply company in Greece with approximately 7.4 million customers. PPC currently holds assets in lignite mines, power generation, transmission and distribution. PPC’s current power portfolio consists of conventional thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as well as RES units, accounting for approximately 68% of the total installed capacity in the country. 

After the spin-off of the Transmission and Distribution segments, two 100% subsidiaries of PPC were created, namely IPTO S.A. (Independent Power Transmission Operator S.A.) and HEDNO S.A. (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A.). IPTO S.A. is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and development of the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System and its interconnections, while HEDNO S.A. is responsible for the management, operation, development and maintenance of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network. 

In 2012, the total installed capacity of PPC generation plants was 12.5 GW. At the end of 2012, the number of permanent employees amounted to 19.998. 

PPC is active in the RES sector through its subsidiary company “PPC Renewables S.A.” (PPCR), with a portfolio of wind farms, small scale hydroelectric plants and photovoltaic plants of total installed capacity of 116 MW (excluding the plants that PPCR participates through joint ventures, with 29 MW of their installed capacity accounting for PPCR). 
Founded in 1950, PPC is listed on the Athens and London Stock Exchange as of December 2001. 

HEDNO S.A. (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A.) was formed by the separation of the Distribution Department from PPC S.A., according to L.4001/2011 and in compliance with 2009/72/EC EU Directive relative to the electricity market organization with the goal to undertake the tasks of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator. It is a 100% subsidiary of PPC S.A., however, it is independent in operation and management retaining all the independence requirements that are incorporated within the above mentioned legislative framework.

ADMIE SA (Independent Power Transmission Operator) was established under the Law no. 4001/2011; it is organized and operates as the Independent Transmission Operator in compliance with the requirements of the European Union Directive 2009/72/EC.

The Company undertakes responsibility and performs all duties as Main Operator of the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System (HETS) as described in the Directive, according to Law 4001/2011, in compliance with the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System Operation Code and the management permission by HETS.

ADMIE’s compliance with the requirements applicable to the model of the Independent Transmission Operator was certified by the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) in December 2012.

The mission of the Company is the operation, control, maintenance and development of ESMIE to ensure the country's electricity supply, in an adequate, safe, efficient and reliable way as well as the operation of the electricity market which is related to the transactions taking place apart from those of the Daily Ahead Scheduling (DAS) in accordance with the principles of transparency, equality and free competition.

The Company

PPC Renewables SA (PPCR), is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Public Power Corporation SA, Greece’s largest power generation company. In 2006, PPCR inherited all Renewable Energy Source (RES) related activities (wind, small hydroelectric, solar and geothermal) from PPC, including all its technological innovation, know-how and expertise in the field of power generation. The company owns 20 Wind Farms, 17 Small Hydro and 28 Photovoltaic Power Plants with a total installed capacity of 153 MW.

The company is involved in all RES-related projects, currently realizing an ambitious expansion plan with new and repowering wind projects as well as in Geothermal and Biomass and hybrid power plants pipeline. PPC Renewables generates electricity with no adverse impact on the environment with an overall pipeline of projects in different stages of development amounting more than 330MW.
