Vard announces the construction of a new electric ferry for Norway
Operated by Boréal, this new electric ferry will start operating in January 2020.
74 meters long, the ferry will carry up to 60 cars and 199 passengers and crew. The hull of the vessel will be built by Vard Braila in Romania and the delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019. Having obtained a nine-year contract with the Norwegian authorities, Boreal will begin the operation of its electric ferry from January 2019 to make the crossing between Utne and Kvanndal, about 150 km east of Bergen.
Boréal is one of the largest operators in the country and specializes in public transport and operates numerous buses, coaches, trams and ferries throughout the country. Based in Stavanger, the group has around 2,000 employees.
